Japanese-inspired Console Table
A hallway console table, designed for an owner-designed house in rural Kent. The design features a ladder frame, tapered and curved legs a flared top and hand-carved bleached sycamore panels with a dovetailed drawer in the centre section.
Many of the design details for this hallway table were inspired by the clients own home, especially the flarings on the outside edges of the top. This mirrors the swooping lines of the roof of the modern-build house. The detail is repeated on the legs, which taper towards the ground and also flick outwards once they are past the bottom rail. The ladder frame design was used to increase the feeling of lightness in the piece (aided by the curves) and common in Japanese design. The panelled top section of the console table features hand carved, then bleached sycamore panels, with the central section housing a dovetailed drawer just large enough to house everyday essentials such as keys and a dog lead.
