FAQ

Below you’ll find everything you need to know about ordering furniture from Knot, whether it’s made to order, custom or fully bespoke. If your question is not covered here then please get in touch using the Contact form

Ordering

  • The leadtime for standard items is 6-8 weeks from the point of ordering. This may be a little longer in very busy periods. If you need the item sooner get in touch and we’ll always try to accommodate if it’s possible. Custom and bespoke orders will take longer.

  • Most of our furniture is made to order. However, some pieces are available in the “Ready to Ship” section of the shop

  • Possibly. This really depends on the type of custom order. For a simple timber or finish change, the only change in cost would be that of the materials - which in most cases is minor. For dimension changes, it is likely that this will cost more, regardless of larger or smaller, due to the need to remake templates and jigs that have already been made for standard items.

  • Absolutely! Take a look at our bespoke work here, and fill out the enquiry form to start the process.

  • At the moment our furniture is only displayed at trade and craft shows, but this will likely change in the near future. Sign up to our newsletter to stay informed when this changes.

Delivery & Returns

  • For all furniture items, orders over £1500 will be delivered free of charge to mainland UK. To receive this discount please use the code FREESHIP at checkout. For orders under £1500, a £75 delivery charge will be applied to your order.

  • Please get in touch to discuss freight options for outside of the UK.

  • Please click here to view our full returns policy. Please note that custom, bespoke and international orders are not eligible for returns.

Product Care

  • As every piece is made to order, this means that the furniture will have received its final coat of finish in the days running up to delivery. Whilst this will be completely dry to the touch, with some of our finishes it takes up to 3 weeks for the finish to completely cure, and give its maximum level of spill resistance. Whilst you should always take care to avoid spills and mop those that occur up immediately, this is especially true in the first 3 weeks after delivery.

  • The finishes we use will give many years of service before requiring any attention. Always mop up spills immediately and clean surfaces regularly with a damp cloth. No abrasives or harsh chemical cleaners should be used. Always use coasters to protect the surfaces from extended contact with heat or damp.

  • Despite its name, paper cord is extremely durable and should require little to no maintenance. The surface can be washed with a soft cloth, but it is advisable not to do this more than necessary as it may start to wear the cord. Never use detergent and don’t allow the surface to absorb water.

  • Oh no! We’re sorry to hear that but we know it does happen. Our furniture is designed to be used. Get in touch here and we can advise how best to proceed.

Sustainability

  • We work with two fantastic timber merchants who source, dry and season timber for furniture use. The vast majority of timber used by Knot is sourced within the British Isles, and can be traced back to the individual tree. Much of what we use is urban timber from local tree felling works, which would otherwise be chipped if not rescued for furniture use.

  • The UK unfortunately imports that majority of its timber - 76% of all timber products and 71% of sawn boards (the type used for furniture making). Combined with the fact that much of the local tree felling leads directly to chipping, this seems like a poor state of affairs.

Timber is a very dense and heavy material that carries a large financial and environmental burden when transported over long distances. As a result, at Knot we try to source timber from as close to home as possible.

Professionals & Wholesale

  • Yes we do. We have a wealth of experience working with interior designers, both to design and make bespoke designs and also to create pieces specified by the client or designer.
