STANTON - Dining Chair
STANTON is a dining chair in solid oak, with a gently curved backrest and a hand-woven Danish cord seat for extra comfort. The legs are turned and strengthened with a low H-shaped stretcher to increase strength, keeping the whole chair light and uncluttered from every angle. Stanton is also available as a matching carver, for the head of the table.
I wanted Stanton to sit somewhere between formal and everyday - a chair that looks considered enough for a dinner party but comfortable enough to actually eat breakfast in every morning. Its inspired by chairs from the mid 20th century, but reimagined using native English oak rather than the heavier exotic timbers favoured in the past. The curved top rail is a key part of the look - it angles gently back to give the perfect seating position. It is carved entirely by hand from a single bookmatched block of oak
The seat is woven by hand in Danish cord. It is beautifully hardwearing and will stand up to years of daily use, and it gives just enough under weight to stay comfortable through a long dinner.
The legs taper to a narrow point at the floor, grounding the whole design and making sure a set of chairs doesn’t feel cluttered in your dining space. And for the head of the table, there's a matching carver version with arms, built to the same proportions so the two sit together without looking like an odd pairing.
