Avery Dining Table

I was approached by Leanne Kilroy of Good Bones London, to create a dining table based on my popular Avery coffee table. The top was to be elliptical with seating for 6 (8 at a squeeze for special occassions). The table is handcrafted from solid English oak with the curves hand-shaped and hand-carved.

The fundamental design of the table is unchanged from the original inspiration. The legs curve as they reach the floor, with a central rail looping over each leg providing stability and visual interest. Due to the dramatically larger scale of this dining table versus the coffee table version, I needed to create an underframe to support the legs (the original has the legs through-tenoned into the top). This has also been curved to match the profile of the table top.

Each component is hand-shaped, then rounded over to give the flowing rope-like shapes. The overall effect is one of lightness, and is complemented in these images by a set of dining chairs from my Stanton range.
