Carved Oak Dining Table
The brief from my client in Chiswick, London was deceptively simple - a double pedestal dining table that is both geometric, yet organic. My design is inspired by the way a table cloth falls over the edge of a rounded table - the material gathers into folds that gently curve. My job was to translate this into solid English oak, and I couldn’t be happier with the final result.
As the pedestals will be viewed from all angles, the curved profile needed to be continued all around from the outside to the inside. Each pedestal base is constructed of 6 identical curved sections (the radii of the curves graduate from top to bottom, inside and outside so are deceptively difficult to model then create). These were then glued up in sections to form the full profile. The outer edges were then blended to give a seamless flow around the table.
